Hi everyone !!!
With this article we will know a little better the Habitat of the precious shrimps Caridina cantonensis, I'm sure you change the concept for future shrimp tanks if you want to get close to his Biotopo slightly.
This is very interesting and totally out of green aquariums where normally observe these beautiful shimps.
You can even remind mountain streams in our area because we must not forget that it is there where his habitat in small streams running through the forest in its descent to the Sea.
Hong Kong is a small administrative region of China with 1,108 square kilometers spread over several islands and where 7 million inhabitants.
This data can be misleading since this population occupies 25% of the surface, and the remaining 75% are nature reserves.
In these we find spectacular flora and fauna and fortunately well preserved, without going too far in the mountains that surround the capital can find various types of Caridina, including Caridina serrata.
The Reserve interests us is called Tai Po Kau (大埔滘) and is located in the mountains of San Thai Mo, if we delay a little our approach to small streams and seek between terrestrial vegetation can find various types of orchids , Carnivorous Nephenthes and other spectacular plants.
Once in the water the first orchards to find, probably filamentous algae, abundant in sunny areas and grazing where we find our little friends.
Also abundant in the bed though scattered in small groups, Blyxa auberti, Ficus piriformis, Acorus gramineus and various mosses.
Other interesting invertebrates that are snails can find several some well-known species such as Melanoides tuberculata, Physella acuta or Chliton retrospictus and other less known as Brotia hainanensis, Radix plicatulus, quadrata Sinotaia and Segmentina succinea.
Some of them can get easily and will be ideal companions in their biotope aquarium.
The Caridina cantonensis has a size of 3 cm in maximum for the male and half more for female.
Like not very hot (rather cool) and without any kind of chemical or heavy metal water. The degree of acidity or alkalinity if not extreme, are not decisive.
Its reproduction is uncomplicated and occurs when the temperature starts to rise, usually the larvae hatch in 25-30 days.
If we wanted to set up a tank for them imitating their biotope this should toggle rounded rocks, logs, sticks, leaves, sand and some plant.
The filtration should move the water surface without being too strong to oxygenate the water, if we use the filter uses the venturi system is very useful.
The lighting should be moderate to intense to promote the growth of algae fed adult specimens both as juveniles and fry.
In my case the biotope aquarium I have assembled and are housed, is 18 liters and is kind shoebox.
Gravel is mixture of black basalt, silica and other scattered in different granulometry.
Several small branches provide shelter to the Caridina cantonensis it with rocks of different sizes and several copies of Saggitaria subulatta do a very natural set in sight.
The filtration is provided by a small internal filter regulated to avoid severe turbulence.
I hope you liked the presentation of the biotope, now let's see some pictures from various points of streams within the Nature Reserve Tai Po Kau, as well as of the species presented and the biotope aquarium I have with them and I'm very satisfied.
The Pezerolog@s who have seen to date liked much as it breaks the image of the typical shrimp tankand offers a very natural look and why this newly assembled and yet to mature and some more detail. Let's see

Section of a stream in the Reserve Tai Po Kau
The stream more detail
Another section of a stream where we can find Caridina cantonensis, on the Hong Kong Tai Po Kau Reserve, as you can see not much different from some channels Cantabrian streams.
And here you have my biotope aquarium Tai po Kau , plants are Saggitaria but until you find the Blyxa make their function;), also there Chladophlora a Vallisneria, Pogostomon, Monoselenium and some moss.
This is one of the Caridina cantonensis, now I have 6 and after having seen with eggs I hope that start to look shrimp fry.
I hope you liked it, encourage you to answer if you have any questions or anything, always excited to know that read and I to like.
